It takes about 2-3 hours for one of Projecto Mirador’s technicians to build an Estufa Dos por Tres stove in a home with our materials and certain supplies from the family. We have built more than 25,000 stoves since 2004.
Step 1
The family builds a base and has the adobe block ready for cutting to the proper size.
Step 2
Adobe block or bricks are put in place to form the outside walls of the Dos por Tres stove.
Step 3
Interior walls are built to facilitate the flow of air, drawing smoke and soot up the chimney.
Step 4
Specially manufactured ceramic pieces form the firebox where the wood will burn.
Step 5
The exterior of the stove is finished and the inside of the cavity is smoothed.
Step 6
The chimney base prevents burns.
Step 7
The top is levelled, the plancha is set in place, and cement is smoothed on.
Step 8
The stove cavity is filled with wood ash as insulation.
Step 9
A hole is cut in the roof for the chimney and sealed by the beneficiary.
Step 10
The stove is finished and dries for a day before it's ready for use.
